Young Chefs Shine in Thrilling Final

Young chefs from across Lancashire have basted and baked their way to perfection in the final round of the Reg Johnson Young Chef Schools Competition, held at Blackburn College on 1st May 2018.

Nabil Hamzah and Waseem Iqbal from Blackburn Central High School were crowned the overall winners of the competition, with Matthew Marriott from Haslingden High School taking second place and Meagan Shovelton and Amelia Litherland from St Christopher’s Church of England High School Accrington achieving third.

Held in memory of the late poultry farmer Reg Johnson, and supported with funding from Future U, the competition was judged by TV Chefs Nigel Haworth and Paul Heathcote MBE, to continue Reg’s passion for encouraging young talent within the Catering and Hospitality industry, engaging with Year 8 and 9 pupils from across Lancashire.

The concept of the competition was to inspire young people who have an interest in cooking to engage with a competition that will deliver greater links to Chefs for schools and provide school teachers with Continual Professional Development opportunities. The winning pupils dish will now form part of the food offer at the Festival of Making being held in Blackburn this weekend, as well as a cookery school prize at the Michelin Star Hotel Northcote Manor.
