SKILLS FOR U

Employability programme helps Lancashire’s future workforce during Lockdown

SKILLS FOR U, a new virtual employability skills programme, has received top marks from pupils around Lancashire who have completed sessions whilst studying from home.

Future U launched SKILLS FOR U before the summer holidays and have so far engaged over 1500 young people, despite not being able to deliver physically in schools and colleges.

The programme is all about understanding and developing key skills that are important to employers. In each session pupils learn about a specific skill, a job where it is used and complete tasks to help them develop the skill themselves. The eight skill sessions are Communication, Teamwork, Organisation, Problem Solving, Confidence, Money Management, Resilience and Initiative. Each session includes a video and a worksheet, allowing pupils to work remotely and independently.

Jessica Richmond, Senior Coordinator at Future U said, ‘We are blown away with the uptake and feedback we have received regarding the programme. We understand that it is a very challenging time for schools and colleges, and recognise the importance of a consistent careers programme, as well as the need for schools to meet the Gatsby Benchmarks for Good Career Guidance. We don’t want students to lose sight of their future goals and hope that this programme will raise their confidence as well as knowledge and aspirations towards future pathways’.

SKILLS for U is aimed at pupils in years 9-11. Interested teachers and advisers should visit here to register.
