Young carers often focus on supporting loved ones ahead of pursuing their own aspirations. We at Future U want to ensure that every young carer gets the opportunity to make an informed decision about their future by offering them the support they need.
We are therefore delighted to be continuing to work alongside Barnardo’s to offer careers and progression support to Young Carers in Lancashire.
Having run a series of successful activities in conjunction with Barnardo’s last year, we have just launched a new mentoring programme called ‘Bounce’. The initial session took place on campus at the University of Central Lancashire and will be followed by two virtual activities and a final face-to-face meet up.
The aim is to offer relevant information, providing Young Carers with a pathway to Level 4 education, alongside skill building activities targeted at developing resilience, recognising strengths and enhancing learner independence.
Andy Foulds, Future U Outreach Officer, said:
“This is a great project where we get to work alongside Barnardo’s, developing workshops to help young carers recognise the amazing skills and qualities they already show day-to-day in their homelife, then supporting them to recognise how these skills and qualities can transfer to their education. Hopefully helping to propel them onto greater success”.
