Walton-le-Dale’s Enterprise Day
On the 7th March 2018, Future U funded and attended an Enterprise Day for a group of Year 10 students from Walton-Le-Dale High School. The pupils were tasked with creating a welcome pack for the upcoming Year 7’s joining in September, and were given the opportunity to use 3D pens during this task. The students were expected to stay within a budget provided to them, and were to ensure the pack was ‘good value for money’. The winning teams were awarded with a free trip to the Young Scientist Centre based at the University of Central Lancashire to participate in the 3D printing workshop.
Feedback was provided by Walton-Le-Dale’s Head of Technology, which highlighted the positive difference Future U makes in the education setting.
“The extra funding and support provided by Future U made a positive difference to the experiences of the students at Walton-le-Dale on our Year 10 Enterprise Challenge. The extra funding allowed us to purchase specific materials meaning the quality of the finished products was much higher. The articles made looked professional and the students were more proud of them.”
“The support with staffing meant that our students experienced external input, more akin to the world of work. Finally, the use of the 3D pens was for most students the best part of the day, being a manufacturing technique we do not currently have in school. I hope we can work in conjunction with you again in the near future.”
The event provided the students with great opportunities to use their existing skills, and acquire new skills to take forward into their future education and careers. An absolutely fantastic event, which was enjoyed by all!
